Catherine CrosbieCatherine here. I don’t know what it is with me and smoothies lately, but I’ve been really enjoying them. I shared a recipe for easy feel-good smoothies already this year, and now I want to share a smoothie recipe that has become my absolute favourite: Banana Oat.

It’s kind of funny that I like this smoothie recipe at all because I’m not crazy about bananas. But I love that this is a healthy snack or meal component, and please believe me when I say it tastes like dessert. It’s just so good!

Fueling Your Body

At Body Works Med Spa & Wellness, we’re proponents of healthy lifestyle, which includes healthy eating. That’s why we like to share healthy recipes; they serve as inspiration for people who are interested in adopting a better way of fueling their bodies as well as supporting their body contouring results. That being said, please be mindful that we are not dieticians or nutritionists. If you think you need to speak to a professional about healthy eating, we’d be happy to recommend a Registered Dietitian who we know and like.

Ingredients

Banana Oat SmoothieBack to the Banana Oat Smoothie recipe. Here’s the list of ingredients for it and below that, I outline how to make it. This recipe makes two large smoothies or several smaller ones.

• 2 medium-large ripe bananas (riper makes a sweeter flavour)
• Roughly 1.5 cups of oats
• 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
• 4 medium-sized pitted dates (no sugar added – dates are sweet enough!)
• 1 cup of coconut milk
• 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
• 1 heaping tablespoon of tahini
• About 1.5 cups of ice

How To Make This Banana Oat Smoothie

Soak the dates in hot water for 5 minutes before adding them to the blender. I boil my kettle, put the whole dates in a mug, and pour enough boiled water to cover them. After soaking them, I put the dates and the water (it’s not much) in the blender.

Add everything else to the blender except for the ice. Blend the contents really well. When smooth, add the ice and blend again until smooth. The blending might take a bit longer than you expect. You definitely don’t want a lumpy Banana Oat Smoothie, so don’t skimp on the blending.

Adjustments

If you’re gluten-free, of course gluten-free oats are a great substitute in this Banana Oat Smoothie. Of course, you can add 1 scoop or more of your preferred protein powder. You may also want to add a fiber supplement like the Bend Beauty Gut Glow, which we sell at Body Works Med Spa & Wellness. I tried to replace the tahini with peanut butter one time and I won’t be doing that again – I love peanut butter, but it just didn’t taste good, in my opinion.

Enjoy!

There you have it. At this point, I probably make this Banana Oat Smoothie once every week or two. My youngest child loves bananas and he’ll down a pouch of this smoothie in record time. Needless to say, I like to make it for him. Also, I made this Banana Oat smoothie yesterday to drink in the car when I drove my oldest child to school. He asked for a taste and liked it so much that he ended up drinking most of it! I hope that you and your family enjoy it as much as we do.
