What Are Vascular Lesions & What Causes Them?

In medical aesthetics, vascular lesions are abnormal growths or malformations in blood vessels that can occur anywhere on the face and body. You can have them from birth or develop them over time. Here are examples of vascular issues that we treat:

  • Rosacea is characterized by general redness, pimples, spider veins, and broken blood vessels. It can be a life-long condition or something that you develop in midlife. It is vascular in nature.
  • Spider veins are a common form of vascular lesion that show up on the face due to rosacea, age, sun damage, and lifestyle. Many people get these tiny red veins around the nose or on their cheeks.
  • Spider veins can also show up on the body, especially the legs. They can be red or blue in colour and may be caused by swelling or other strain or pressure. For example, it’s common for women to develop spider veins on their legs and breasts during pregnancy and while nursing. They also appear with age.
  • Broken capillaries often show up on the face due to genetics, rosacea, sun damage, squeezing or picking at your skin, and extreme temperature change. These are tiny blood vessels that break and become visible under the skin.
  • Angiomas generally look like red moles. They can be small or large, flat or raised. They are made up of a dense group of blood vessels.

Why Choose Clarity II For Vascular Lesions

Here’s why we love Clarity II for Vascular Lesions, and why Body Works Med Spa & Wellness is the go-to clinic for this treatment:

Non-invasive

Clarity II is a premium laser system by Cynosure Lutronic. As a non-ablative laser system, it heats up the deeper layers of the skin without damaging the skin’s surface. No need for needles, incisions, downtime, or recovery time!

Effective

During treatment, the hemoglobin (blood) in the vascular lesion selectively absorbs the laser energy without injuring healthy tissues or cells. This is called Selective Photothermolysis. Treatment creates a gas bubble inside the vascular lesion, which collapses the walls of the blood vessel. Over time, your body absorbs the remnants of the blood vessel and the vascular lesion disappears.

Most comfortable vascular treatment

Clarity II is by far the most comfortable treatment for vascular lesions that we’ve tried and unlike other treatments, it doesn’t even use numbing. The feeling is a quick sting followed by a burst of cold air to offset the discomfort. The burst of cold air is called Cryogen Skin Cooling and it significantly improves the client experience.

Fast treatment

Clarity II for Vascular Lesions is a quick treatment. Treating one vascular lesion may take anywhere from 10 seconds to 10 minutes depending on its size. In a single treatment, we’ll treat up to 20 lesions within a half hour.

Great service

At Body Works, our mission is to use state-of-the-art non-invasive technology to help clients look and feel better about themselves while enhancing their quality of life – with no surgery or downtime. We also want you to have a top-notch experience with us from start to finish.

Competitive pricing

Even though Clarity II is a leading laser system, we offer treatments at a price point that is competitive with older and less effective devices. Similar cost, better results!

Frequently Asked Questions About Clarity II For Vascular Lesions

Clarity II does not treat varicose veins and we cannot treat spider veins that are on top of varicose veins. If you have a significant network of big spider veins in one area, you may wish to explore an invasive treatment like sclerotherapy. If you’d like our opinion on your situation, please book a free consultation and we’ll be happy to chat and take a look and your skin.

Every person’s skin issue is different. We have to discuss your history and see your skin issue to know if you’re a good candidate and recommend a treatment plan. For example, some people may only require two treatments while others may require six. Please contact us to book a free consultation.

The majority of people who try Clarity II for Vascular Lesions would say that it is tolerable discomfort. There’s a small sting then a burst of cold air which improves the client experience. Most people would say that it’s no problem to treat smaller vascular lesions, while bigger and deeper lesions are more uncomfortable. Clarity II for Vascular Lesions may be the most comfortable treatment of its kind.

Typically, we see a lightening, darkening, or blanching of vascular lesions right away. There may be mild redness or swelling which generally subsides within 24 hours.

Purpura may occur and commonly subside within 14 days. Purpura are like bruises; they’re purple, red, or brown spots caused by a bursting of blood vessels under the skin.

Vascular lesions on the face take up to 6 weeks to resolve while vascular lesions on the body take up to 12 weeks. Optimal results require a series of treatments.

Generally, yes, Clarity II for Vascular Lesions is safe. Complications can happen with any elective cosmetic treatment. Clarity II is designed with high quality safety mechanisms and we are certified laser technicians who listen carefully to client feedback. People have been doing vascular laser treatments for a long time because treatments are non-invasive and they like the results.

We do not treat people who are on medication or have a condition that causes skin photosensitivity. This includes Accutane. Other contraindications include pregnancy, nursing, skin cancer or pre-malignant moles, an impaired immune system, and bleeding disorders. We do not treat over tattoos, permanent make-up, or pacemakers. If you have active Herpes Simplex Virus 1 or 2, we must wait until the lesion(s) are no longer present in the treatment area and we recommend taking prophylaxis before treatment to avoid a flare up. We do a full evaluation of treatment candidacy during your free consultation.

This treatment is best for untanned skin. Minimize the treatment area’s exposure to sun for at least 1 week before treatment. That means do not use tanning beds, apply and re-apply SPF 30 or higher, try to stay out of direct sunlight, and wear a wide-brimmed hat if treating the face.

At least 2 weeks before treatment, discontinue use of self-tanning products and thoroughly cleanse the treatment area with an abrasive exfoliating scrub to remove all residue. Failure to do this could result in a burn.

If you’ve been using Accutane, schedule your treatments at least 6 months after completion of the drug therapy.

If you have a history of disease stimulated by heat such as Herpes Simplex Virus 1 and 2, we recommend starting prophylaxis prior to treatment.

If you take supplements, stop using Ginko, ginseng, garlic, Tetracyclines, and St. John’s Wort at least 2 weeks before treatment. These substances can increase the risk of bleeding, photosensitivity, and drug interactions that can interfere with laser treatment and healing.

At least 2 days prior to treatment, stop using topical retinol, vitamin C, glycolic acid, and any other active ingredients or products that may irritate the skin.

If you have hair in the treatment area, please shave within 24 hours of treatment and do not wear lotions or other skincare products on the day of your treatment.

Avoid sun exposure for at least 24 hours immediately following your treatment and continue taking sun protection measures for 2-4 weeks. That means use SPF 30 or higher every day, reapply your SPF, wear a wide-brimmed hat in the sun, and avoid sun exposure when possible. Sun exposure immediately following a laser treatment could cause hyperpigmentation or a serious burn.

For at least 24 hours, avoid anything that will increase your heart rate like strenuous exercise, hot tubs, saunas, and excessive heat of any kind.

For the first 3 or so days, use only gentle skincare products and avoid chemicals that may irritate the skin including vitamin C, retinol, and chlorine.

Blisters are an uncommon side effect, but if one appears, keep the affected area covered and moist with Vaseline or Polysporin.

You may use cold packs to ease any temporary discomfort.

If treating leg veins, compression stockings may reduce potential bruising and vascular lesion recurrence. Ask your technician about our stylish selection of compression socks.

At Body Works, you can finance purchases with a starting value of $400. All you have to do is apply for our Medicard financing program. It costs nothing to apply and we’re happy to assist if you need help.
